Millfield School
Millfield's School campuses are found in rural Somerset, and form one of the leading independent schools in the UK, if not the world. Its reputation is renowned, with many of its alumni having represented their country in sporting disciplines, and proving successful in the arts, business and media.
Facilities include numerous sports pitches, golf course, an athletics track and an Olympic sized swimming pool. Its academic facilities are particularly impressive, with an award winning library, a theatre, purpose built laboratories and an inspiring new concert hall and music school.
The schools' 1700 pupils range in age from 2 to 18, with boarders - who make up over 70% of the pupil population - housed in 24 residential units, which are located on the two campuses.
Providing a security system for the two campuses was assigned to Telstar. The Millfield Campus itself is like a small village, and the primary concern of the brief was for the protection of the pupils and staff; securing of the buildings, grounds and campus was the secondary brief.
The system installed allows an unobtrusive yet effective system to ensure that the key areas required were covered by the system. The beauty of the Telstar option has been that units may be added as required to the existing system. The extensive network of cameras allows the Security team to review many areas at once from the central monitoring station which is most effective.
In addition, Telstar was also commissioned to overhaul and upgrade the schools' entire digital and satellite television systems, including the installation of an Integrated Reception System for each of the residential blocks. With this system now fully operational, the school is perfectly placed to take advantage of the Digital Revolution with Telstar continually monitoring and managing the systems.
